SHELTER SERVICES MANAGER – Open Arms Men’s Shelter

JOB DESCRIPTION:


The Shelter Services Manager, under the supervision of the Director of Shelters & Homeless Outreach Services, is responsible for the successful management and operation of the homeless shelter; maintains daily operational functions of The Shelter; assign shift duties and tasks; coordinates crisis intervention and emergency responses for residential staff; attain familiarity and proficiency in all duties and responsibilities related to the residential department; and all other duties as outlined in the job description.  Reports directly to the Director of Shelters & Homeless Outreach Services.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor degree in social welfare, counseling, hospitality, or related field strongly preferred.  Associates degree with at least five years’ experience in providing direct care services in a homeless environment may be accepted in lieu of Bachelor’s degree. Must have at least two years of proven experience supervising paid staff.
  • Experience working with mental health related issues, substance abuse, domestic violence, and HIV/AIDS related issues; experience working with persons experiencing homelessness; experience managing a 24/7 human services program (e.g. Homeless Shelter, Domestic Violence Shelter, or Residential Treatment Program) preferred.

SKILLS AND TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:

  • Demonstrated understanding of the social and interpersonal dynamics of poverty and homelessness.
  • Knowledge of community resources in Westchester County.
  • Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule and to work evening, weekend, and overnight shifts as needed. The position requires on call duties and responsibilities consistent with a shelter environment operating 24/7.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with demanding and competing deadlines, superior organizational skills, and the ability to maintain a quality work place in a diverse, fast paced, and changing environment. Ability to work independently, as necessary.
  • Ability to assess emergency situations and respond effectively.
  • Ability to exercise appropriate authority when needed. Sound judgment. Ability to uphold program and personnel policies and procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in using Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and other applications, as well as experienced using and entering data into a client/CRM database.
  • Valid DMV report. Position subject to background check and fingerprinting
