Rye, NY.- The Rye City Lions Club, Rye Rotary, and The Osborn Retirement Community are partnering this winter to collect much needed winter coats for homeless men and women. The coats will be distributed at The Open Arms Men’s Shelter and the Samaritan House Women’s Shelter in White Plains, NY. New or clean, gently used coats are being collected every Tuesday in January at Miriam’s Attic, The Osborn’s Resale Shop, between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm. The Osborn is located at 101 Theall Road in Rye, NY.
The Open Arms Men’s Shelter and Samaritan House Women’s Shelter are run by Grace Church Community Center (GCCC), a non-sectarian, community-based 501(c) (3) organization whose mission is to assist Westchester County’s neediest and most at-risk residents, especially those who are underserved by other resources. GCCC is one of the largest social services agencies in Westchester County and has been providing shelter and support for individuals and families for over 30 years.
The shelters serve single homeless individuals, providing transitional and emergency housing as well as rehabilitative services. Collectively, the two programs provided 22,000 nights of shelter and more than 50,000 meals to the homeless last year.
