Services
for Developmentally Disabled Individuals
"The
Rainbow Outreach & Drop-In Center instills the belief that, despite their disabilities, there is nothing these
individuals can't do. For many, this is a new concept. Through
patience and encouragement, they learn many activities that
promote their self-confidence and independence."

Who
We Serve
Developmentally disabled individuals from minority and low-income families who can benefit from weekly companionship with people similarly situated. Saturday morning programs benefit both those individuals and their family members.
Why
There Is a Need
Other programs for developmentally disabled adults do exist
in Westchester County, but they do not target the needs of
minority and low-income families.
The
GCCC program provides social interaction and recreation for
developmentally disabled adults from these underserved populations
as well as relief, hope and support for their families.
The
Program
There are two key elements to the Rainbow program.
The
Rainbow Drop-In Center provides a safe and therapeutic
social environment for 20-30 developmentally disabled adults.
The entire group meets every Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. - 6:00
p.m. at the Grace Church Parish House. Activities include:
- arts
and crafts
- educational
films
- photography
- trips
to the Galleria Mall to learn pricing and discounting
- visits
to area parks
- social
and cultural outings
- performing
in holiday and end-of-year shows
Through
this program, participants gain self-esteem and a sense of
purpose and belonging while acquiring valuable social skills.
At 5:00
p.m. dinner is provided. Participants assist and learn responsibility
in table setting, meal preparation, service and cleanup.
Rainbow Outreach
was started in 1994, as an adjunct to the Drop-In Center. The New York Sate funded program is a minority-based program for developmentally disabled individuals and their families and acts primarily as a referral service. In its outreach capacity, this program works to determine the needs of people who simply do not know where to go for help and refers them to other agencies for further support. The Rainbow Outreach also provides recreation and educational field trips for participants.
