Soup Kitchen Receives Donation from Beta Zeta Foundation

This check for $1,000 will be used to purchase food for the GCCC Soup Kitchen, the only soup kitchen in White Plains open every Monday to Friday and on all holidays.

Each year the Soup Kitchen serves more than 20,000 meals to hungry Westchester residents.

Winter Coat Drive to Benefit
Homeless Men and Women

Rye, NY.- The Rye City Lions Club, Rye Rotary, and The Osborn Retirement Community are partnering this winter to collect much needed winter coats for homeless men and women. The coats will be distributed at The Open Arms Men’s Shelter and the Samaritan House Women’s Shelter in White Plains, NY. New or clean, gently used coats are being collected every Tuesday in January at Miriam’s Attic, The Osborn’s Resale Shop, between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm. Celebrates 20th Anniversary

Ninety people gathered in the Parish Hall of Grace Church October 22 to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Open Arms, a men’s shelter that provides housing and rehabilitative services for up to 50 homeless men from its location at 86 East Post Road, in the heart of White Plains.

Open Arms is one of the nine programs operated by Grace Church Community Center (GCCC), an $8 million nonprofit social services agency that is celebrating 30 years of serving the community this year as well. Complete Story

Art Show Opens at 121 Restaurant & Bar

121 Restaurant & Bar in North Salem served up something a little different on Columbus Day weekend, offering visitors hors d’oeuvres and drinks seasoned with a little art and jazz. 

The restaurant hosted an art opening for two local artists, Donna Rossi an abstract impressionist a member of the Brown Street Studios in Peekskill and Linda Austrian, award winning photographer and active member of the Color Camera Club of Westchester, the Westchester Photographic Society and the Mamaroneck Artists Guild. Grace Church Community Center Celebrates 30th Anniversary

The White Plains Winter Warmth coat drive had owners and managers of major office buildings working together to solicit contributions of winter coats, gloves and hats for donation to the Open Arms men’s shelter. Building owners participating in the program were Cohen Brothers Realty, Cappelli Enterprises, Calano & Calano, LLP and the New York Power Authority. Girl, 8, Gives Generous Gift to Soup Kitchen

May 15, 2008 – Soup Kitchen donor is an 8-year-old from Hawthorne, NY

One of the most surprising and inspiring donations to a local Soup Kitchen did not come from a wealthy businessperson or prominent politician, but an 8-year-old girl named Ileana Katzman of Hawthorne, NY. Ileana donated money to the Grace Church Community Center, Inc. (GCCC) Soup Kitchen which she raised by asking 16 of her friends who were invited to her birthday party at the Westchester Skating Rink on April 3rd to make a contribution in lieu of a gift. Proud parents, Sheri and Steven Katzman matched the funds and a grand total of $1,000 was presented on April 24th to Sister Alice Conrad, Supervisor of the Soup Kitchen. Complete Story

17 years ago, Phil Collins popularized the plight of individuals living in the streets. Today, for almost 750,000 homeless Americans, that plight is still a reality that’s a far cry from a “day in paradise”.

Some of the luckier ones have found their way to one of the homeless shelters in White Plains operated by Grace Church Community Center (GCCC). Many of those have put their experiences and frustrations into the lyrics of songs and poetry and, on Sunday, August 13th, they will share their work with the public, and with each other, in a performance aptly entitled “Word From the Street”.
