Programs Serve Thousands
Thousands of people of all ages
and from all walks of life need help in acquiring the basic essentials
of life. For some, its a hot meal. Others need a place to stay during
a crisis. Some are just looking for a helping hand to live out the remainder
of their lives with dignity and needed health services.
The statistics below indicate
that GCCC provides hope and genuine help to people in need.
Our programs and services ...
- Feed more than 50,000 meals each year
to the hungry
- Shelter homeless men and women with more
than 20,000 single-night stays and assist some to find housing
- Enhance the lives of 38 developmentally
disabled persons through weekly activities and referral to important
services
- Nurture 30 children through Day Care services
- Care for 60 elderly persons through health
services, medical equipment and everyday living support
- Expand the horizons of over 150 young
persons who are financially disadvantaged or living in the shelter
system with their families through a Summer Day Camp
- Help peopleincluding persons suffering
from mental illness, substance abuse and AIDS/HIVto stay in
their homes through rent subsidies

Our Programs
- Open
Arms shelter and rehabilitative services, provides a full
range of services for homeless men, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week,
sheltering up to 50 men each night.
- The
Soup Kitchen provides 25,000 free, nutritionally balanced,
hot, mid-morning meals each year to anyone in need, every Monday
through Friday at 33 Church Street. Holidays meals, delivered meals
and take-home meals comprise an additional 5,000 plates of food provided
to the poor and troubled in our area.
- The
Summer Camp provides a program for more than 140 homeless
and disadvantaged children for five weeks each summer, including
swimming, arts and crafts, sports, field trips, and reading instruction.
Mentoring continues through the school year for more than 70 students.
- The
Day Care Program serves working poor parents and low-income
families, providing 30 children with a safe and caring environment
five days a week, 11 hours a day from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The early
education program provides readiness for kindergarten.
- Housing
Services works to prevent homelessness, with an eviction prevention
program that provides household financial management counseling, housing
referrals, rent and legal assistance to more than 400 families
each year. Target populations include individuals with a history
of mental illness or substance abuse and those living with HIV/AIDs.
- The
Neighbors Program is a licensed home health care agency that
provides quality home health care services to nearly 400 homebound
seniors and disabled individuals annually. Personal care aides,
home health aids, cleaners, cooks, grocery shoppers, Registered Nurses
and Licensed Practical Nurses help this vulnerable population remain
in their homes, in many cases, rather than being institutionalized.
- Rainbow Outreach & Drop-In Center offers a safe environment and therapeutic activities
weekly for 35 developmentally disabled adults and referral
services for these individuals and their families.
- Samaritan
House provides transitional, emergency housing for homeless
women, including transitional housing for up to 25 women, comprehensive
services include individualized treatment for those who suffer from
substance abuse, domestic violence or HIV/AIDs.
